How We First Met: Evelyn and Ana

Evelyn and Ana

We met when Ana was just about to turn 21 years old and I was 27. It was October 2002. We met at a club called "Cherry Bar" in San Francisco (it no longer exists). I saw Ana on the dance floor with a group of friends and proceeded to introduce myself to one of her friends in order to meet her. It worked and her friend (Melissa) casually walked me out to the dance floor and introduced us. I fell in love instantly with her infectious personality and beauty. She is a beautiful woman. She was then very young and we proceeded to date for a few months. Had fun but it was clear Ana was not ready for a serious relationship. When we parted ways, I told her "I will see you at 30!", she replied "What does that mean?"... My reply, "You will appreciate someone like me when you turn 30. Enjoy your life and I will see you at 30." I had no idea at the time that my words would in fact become reality. We each went into different relationships and would throughout the next 10 years run into each other and I would ask "how old are you?" and when her reply was something like "25", I would simply say "see you at 30!". Forward to late 2011, each out of long term relationships, I attended a friend's birthday party at a restaurant called Mua in Oakland, CA which ended with a trip to a local known women's club on Wednesday night called the "Den". Dancing as I love to do on the dance floor, I hear the words "Ev, is that you?" and there she was to my delight as beautiful as I had remembered with a friend. Our paths had crossed again and this time she was just about to turn 30 in a month or so. We rekindled our friendship. She, still not on board that I would be a good fit for her, and I, still stubborn to believe that we were meant to be....this kind of crossing of paths proclaimed by a young 20 something was no coincidence. Here I sit in my office with a smirk remembering this time and happy to say we are together now for over a year and look forward to many, many more.
