I ( Teri) was new to the Bay Area after accepting a job as a Parole Officer. It was September 2001 when Gaff, an SFPD cop, arrested one of my female parolees who took it upon herself to steal someone's car in the Tenderloin. Weeks later I subpoena Gaff (whom I never met or spoke to) for a court hearing, so I could get that parolee back in prison. Gaff walked into the courtroom and I immediately thought he was a cutie! I sensed interest from him too, but we both kept our cool as we made pre-testimony small talk. It was his time to testify, and as he did I just watched him and grew more interested. After he testified he was no longer needed, so he left the courtroom. I stayed in court since it was my case. About an hour later the hearing ended. The bailiff then walked up to me and said, "Hey, that officer (Gaff) wanted to know about the outcome of the case, and he asked that you call him." The bailiff then gave me Gaff's business card, which had his personal cell phone number handwritten on it. My first thought was, "I have never met a cop (much less a SFPD cop) care about the outcome of a parolee's case." What b.s. What a dog.... but I dug his nerve because I new exactly what his motive was. I left the courtroom and began to drive away. I waited several minutes as I gathered the nerve to play his silly game. I called, he answered, and we both feigned professional interest in the case. Within about 5 minutes he asked me out for a drink, and of course I accepted. We met about a week later at a sports bar, and talked for hours as we watched Barry Bonds pursue his home run record. We quickly fell in love over the next few months, and married in 2006!
