We worked together on the same product but based out of different cities (SF & Austin). Brian had just joined the team and visited the Austin office 3 days into his new job. I didn't really give him a second glance until his last day when we had a huge team dinner before going out. I had dragged my co-worker/roommate to dinner with me, but we were late and sat at the end of the table next to Brian. Brian spent the whole evening hitting on my roommate (Katie, a girl, who had a boyfriend!) I obviously was not even remotely interested in Brian and felt bad for the poor dude, for picking to hit on the one girl at the table that was taken. I had no clue he was gay -- I'm not sure he knew he was gay? At the end of dinner I offered him gum -- and his line was "Yes please, it'll come in handy for when we make out later!" I had no idea what had just happened but kept my calm and responded, "if you play your cards right" and walked away.
The rest - 3 years later, a lot of ups and downs, a breakup here and there, is all history. PS. He still steals gum from me every chance he gets!
