How We First Met: Susan and Michael

Susan and Michael

Me: 67; her: 47. Met on "Match," and I was the first date that Susan had gotten from the site. We talked on the phone a few times, and I asked when she'd like to get together. She replied, "How about in a couple of hours?" We ended up meeting at the restaurant in the St. Francis Hotel in Union Square (Then called "Michael Mina" and formerly the "Compass Rose") for a drink. I ordered an appetizer of scallops for us (not knowing that Susan did not care for seafood). Susan braved the food while trying to conceal her dislike, but ended up loving scallops! I then asked if she's like to go to dinner, and she said yes. Still not knowing that she didn't care for seafood, I took to the "Pacific Cafe" (a great fish place) out in the Avenues. Susan loved the 60s style orange lighting, and she fortunately was able to get a steak. Finally, I suggested dessert at yet another of my favorite places, "Boulevard" restaurant. The host seated us in a corner booth, with the place starting to clear out. Evidently there was an attractive woman out of view behind me, and Susan mentioned "Wow, what a knockout," Without taking my eyes off of Susan, I said "I didn't notice." That moment cemented our relationship to this day.
