It began in 1994 when Lianne's father was dying. Her Dad's last advise to her was to get rid of that jerk boyfriend she was with at the time. Not wanting to fail her father, she started planning to leave this boyfriend. Her plan was to move as far away from Hawaii as she could...... to New York.
While planning this move, things began getting difficult with her boyfriend. To get away from him and to seek advise, she went to speak to her best friend (we will call her Mary - names have been changed to protect the innocent) who just happened to be working in a strip club (as a waitress). Mary sat her down in a booth away from the dancers and promptly brought her a much needed drink and began consoling while Lianne sobbed and drank. Mary was still at work so also had to serve her customers while keeping Lianne entertained. While Mary was away from Lianne's table, a coworker of Mary (a waiter named Tom) came over and put on his charm as he flirted with Lianne. At this point, Lianne wasn't having it and was not looking for a new man in her life. Tom, the waiter was freshly out of a relationship that didn't work out and wasn't looking for anything serious either. He just wanted to have fun. Lianne thought nothing more of this night until a week later while camping.
Mary and her family always went camping on Memorial Day weekend and Lianne was always a part of this tradition. It was a week before Lianne was to get on a plane and leave for New York for good. A beautiful camp on the beach with great friends and family. What else could a girl want? What? Mary invited Tom from the strip club to come camping too??? Okay???? Well........let's just say after a weekend on the beach with Tom, the rest is history. Lianne ended up going to New York the next week but bought a return ticket home to Hawaii.
19 years, a move to California and 3 kids later, we are still going strong. Thank you for the best advise ever, Dad.
